Avoid Work-At-Home Weight Gain

Working at home is awesome. The only drawback is that you burn less calories working at home than at a traditional job (unless of course you have a personal training business at home). Further the fridge is just a few feet away making access to food too easy. Couple that with the weight that mommies often gain in their 30’s anyway, and you could be needing new P.J.’s (my preferred work attire) in no time.
But there are ways to avoid gaining weight while working at home.
1) Schedule your meal times just like you would at a job. Snacking can be a real problem for the work-at-home mom. Eating is often a way to fill up time when you’re not sure what to do next. Instead schedule breaks and lunch time just as you would have at a traditional job.
2) If you do get the munchies and can’t help yourself, drink water or choose the healthy options such as fruits and veggies.
3) Move it! At least once a day do something active. You don’t have to get a gym membership or start running, but you should do something that gets the heart rate up. Some fun options include playing outside with the kids (tag? bike riding? roller blading?), joining an adult recreational league (soccer? softball?), or walking around the block.
4) Stretch. Many people eat because they are bored and have low energy. Stretching is a great way to get the blood flowing and re-energized. And its good for injury prevention for #3. Do yoga as your stretching exercise and you’ll get added strength, balance and core (abs) work.

I lose weight when I work at home. One of many reasons is that I have a huge stock of healthy food right here. No sudden fifteen-minute lunch breaks in which I simply have to grab what’s available from down the street, and no need to make it the night before, either.

I’ve been trying to get started back on getting fit. Combining working at home with having a third baby recently has really messed up my fitness level. Good thing baby makes a great workout partner.
