I’ve got another Cross Blog Conversation to start today and this one is with Reba Collins of Internet Marketing Boomer. (Are you following Reba on Twitter?)
We have a focus for this CBC and it’s all about How long it takes to be a Success on the Internet.
Reba, I was just thinking about this last night.
I had charged myself with the difficult job of writing a new ‘About Me’ page for my websites and wanted to share what a dramatic change I’ve experienced over the six years since I started my business.
Taking myself back to 2002. I remember sitting at my desk in the living room with Sean playing out in the yard with his friends. I was financially and emotionally destitute. I never had enough money and felt like I never got to do anything I wanted. (whaa-whaa!) At that point in my life I had one goal – to make an extra $200 per month so I could keep my electricity and phone from being shut off AGAIN.
I thought so small back then – but at the time it felt like I was thinking so big! To earn $200 a month at a part time job I’d have to give up my weekends with Sean and that just wasn’t something I could do to him.
The first money I earned online was $5 for a graphic button for a fellow work at home mom. Then I earned $10 for a banner and button set. A few weeks later I celebrated my first completed goal of earning $50 in a week and within a few months I consistently hit my $200/month goal.
THAT felt like success
Heck, it WAS success! I felt so empowered and full of excitement.
I thought to myself… ‘Keep this up and you’ll be earning $500 a month in a year or so.”
LOL! I’m grinning today to remember how sweet and simple my expectations were then.
Reba, I share this to ask you a couple of questions… ‘How do we define Success?’ and ‘How often has your definition of success been changed?’

Kelly, your goal for earning $200 six years ago, is mine today. I’m just starting out and know that I would be elated and will be calling myself successful if I reach that mark next month.
Looking forward to Reba’s reply.
