Do You Have the Right Package to Achieve Your Business Dreams?

This week’s WAHM Talk Radio is a ‘Coffee with Kelly’ episode.  That means it’s just me, a cup of coffee and you – my listener.  I’m talking right to you about the reality of what it takes to achieve a business dream.

I was recently reminded that a lot of folks have Dreams but never do anything to achieve them.

I have an acquaintance who has been telling me for 20 years that she will retire in Hawaii.  My sister and her husband just came home from an amazing two week vacation in Hawaii and so the subject came up again – and she repeated her big dream about retiring there.

Being the ‘can’t ever just let it go‘ person I am, I had to ask her what she has been doing to make that dream a reality.  She’s a good ten years older than me which places her over 50 and to be plain – I’ve never seen any evidence that she was saving money or taking steps to ensure she would have a good retirement.

Her response was typical for her.  “Oh it’ll happen.  One way or another!’

Ug!

I’m sorry – but it won’t happen.  (Unless she plans to become one of those homeless people my sis saw living on at the beach here and there.)

You can’t just pay lip service to a big dream - you have to actually DO something to get yourself there.

What About Your Business Dreams?

Please do go listen to this week’s show.  I’ve been real frank about my own experiences with business dreams – both the achieved variety and the flopped kind.  I also share some of my future dreams.

I put forth the idea that you have to have the right ‘Package’ to achieve a BIG business dream.

The Package Involves:

The Right Skill Set – Do you have the skills necessary to make your big dream a reality?  Are you willing to learn what’s needed on the fly?

The Right Personality - Are you really going to enjoy living out this dream?  (The journey, not just the end results?)

A Big Enough Reach - Do you have the partnerships and associations required to take your dream to completion?

Pure Determination – Are you devoted? Have you looked at what is needed and committed yourself to seeing it through?

Finances - Can you generate the money needed to cover long term costs?  Big business dreams usually cost big money.

Before you get worried – I am NOT saying you have to have the Package ready today before you venture out to achieve a big business dream.  Not at all.

If you’re new to business, you may have no clue what sort of Package you’re going to need – but this will certainly get you thinking ahead which is a good thing.  Grab some paper and start brainstorming about your goals.  Get as clear a picture of the journey to your dream as you can.

Now evaluate yourself.

Are you willing and determined to stretch into the person who achieves this dream?

Some dreamers only ever think about what it will be like when the dream is achieved.  They love that picture in their mind.  But the reality of working your bottom off to get there is extremely unappealing.

What makes the difference between one mom who dreams big and chases that dream to completion and another mom who dreams big but never walks it out.  I suspect the difference is found deep down in what motivates them as a person.

If you’re sufficiently motivated – you WILL develop the right Package.
