Different facets of a singular personality is one thing. Totally different personality is another.

I write in a much different style on my personal blog than on the guest posts I write on my employer's blog, and obviously Twitter requires a much briefer, tighter style than my normal wordiness--but my off-kilter sense of humor is the same everywhere.

And clearly, topical relevance is another issue. Not all topics fit all communities.

I both agree and disagree. People are multi-faceted. Different platforms and groups of people can bring out different facets of our personalities. Especially Twitter because people are still trying to figure it out. Also - it's not uncommon to find co-workers to be quite a bit different outside the workplace than they are in it.

On the other hand, I do see some marketers - maybe they're new marketers - drastically change from group to group in order to connect better. They miss the mark when they fail to realize how much those groups overlap.

I think yes, there are times I can be incongruent. But it is simply a matter of looking at everything from all angles. I enjoy playing Devil's Avocate and getting someone else to think of something from the opposite view even if I totally agree with their view. I am totally unable to just agree, (even if I agree) without swirling it around a bit.
