One Chance to Make First Impression

One of the credit card companies has a slogan, “What’s in your wallet?” Today I’d like to ask all direct sales consultants “What’s in your purse (or glove box)?” Do you always have a business card, catalog and sample available?
I’m not suggesting that you need to be on the clock 24/7 or that you need to have the mindset that every single person is a prospect (if you’re always in that mode you may appear a bit desperate or at the very least irritating). Rather I’m saying that should the opportunity present itself while you are out and about, are you able to distribute your marketing collateral at any given moment?
A response such as “I don’t have any business cards with me” gives the impression that you’re not really serious about your business. Again, I’m not suggesting that you keep a business card in your bra while you’re in aerobics class. Yet if you have some information in your locker or in your purse, you can easily seize the opportunity.
Remember, you don’t get a second chance to make a first impression. Double check to ensure your purse and your vehicle are well stocked with your business information.

I totally agree! And its not just for direct marketers. Any business person should be carrying around business cards and other promotional materials. I have drop cards I leave in public spots with my website and book on them. I have copies of my book in my car. A missed opportunity could cost you more than you know. How much is one good customers (and their sphere of influence) worth? Great post!
