Whenever I stick with topics that fascinate me, I&#039;m gold...whenever I strike out in &#039;this should make money but is more boring than dental floss drying in the wind&#039;.... no go at all.  :)

Yes and no. :)  I think a lot of people try to start a business following their passions, and then realize they don&#039;t know enough about business to make it happen (suggested reading: E-myth Revised) or the market isn&#039;t there to support their endeavor.

I definitely say find something you&#039;re passionate about, but do the research first and make sure it&#039;s viable.  It might be that the third or fourth thing on your list of loves is the one that makes the most sense to turn into a business.
