I spoke today at Michelle Water’s Product Sellers Seminar and the topic was being a Focused Product Seller. You all know how much I love to talk about FOCUS!
One of the topics was ‘mistakes Product Sellers make that ruin their focus‘ and the first mistake I talked about was this: Not keeping their products in focus.
When I visit a product based website, as a customer I want to see the product. You’d be amazed at the number of small home based product seller’s websites that don’t have a picture of the product on the home page.
Here are a few tips for keeping the focus on your product:
- Display great product images.
- Show someone using the (tool) product.
- Show someone wearing the (clothing) product.
- Show a kid playing with the (toy) product.
- Show the product poking up out of a beautiful gift bag.
- Show the product (art) hanging on a wall.
- Show the product (soap) next to the bathroom sink.
- Show the product (food) being consumed.
- Show the product (books, newsletters, info products) being read/studied.
- Show the product (video) being viewed.
- Show the product (cd) being listened to.
- Show the size by placing it near something we are familiar with.
I’m sure you can think of more ideas for showing of a product - leave me a comment and share them!

Show someone riding the mountain bike.
Show someone using the treadmill
Show someone running in your running shoes or just wearing the clothes you are selling.
I think I am much more likely to buy an article of clothing that is being worn by a human instead of on a manikin or or just laying down.
