You inspired me to get out the camera and get some new shots…My daughter and I giggled and guffawed for at least an hour while I hammed it up…I’ll probably need to head on over to glamour shots but these’ll have to do for now.

Great tips! I try to keep my photo updated at my own blog. I have often met someone IRL that I have gotten to know via the internet only to realize their photo is about 20 years old! We can’t be 25 forever! I think it’s important to update your photo regularly so that people aren’t surprised!

I hate having my picture taken or even looking at the my picture! It was one of the hardest things I’ve done – adding my picture to my blog, all the social networking sites, etc. I’m glad I did it though, but it still feels weird sometimes.

I think that if you don’t use a picture, maybe come up with some other image that you use everywhere then, for consistency.

Tough topic.
I just commented on a fellow blog about identity and this indirectly ties into your online identity.
I also couldn’t decide on a profile pic for a while. I wanted me and not my avatar since my aim was to be genuine, but I also still have my identity safety fears. So I chose to chop off my head/face with my pic. (I don’t know if that was a wise choice or not yet?)
I think eventually when I become more comfortable on the blogosphere I’ll reveal me, but till then I’m partially hiding behind the curtain.

It took me years to put a picture up, I am not remotely photogenic and it’s a rare day that I get a good picture.

But I agree that it really helps people to get to know us so I thought it was important.

I’m due for an update, I’m considering getting them done by someone professional but will probably have as much luck having my daughter taking a few thousand shots over the course of the summer :0)

It is a bit of a relief to know that I’m not the only one who is camera shy.

I think it’s not even so much what you look like as the expression on your face and the personality that it conveys, and as Kelly mentioned, the surroundings can be telling.

There are some beautifully done cropped pictures that I’ve seen around as well, wonder if I can do one of my ear or something :0))
